Db Group’s City Centre project overlooking St George’s Bay has been recommended for approval by the Planning Authority’s Case Officer.

The PA board will decide on the application on Thursday 10 June.

The Environment and Resources Authority had approved the Final Assessment for the proposed db Group’s City Centre multi-use development on the ITS site in April.

The db Group had changed its ITS site proposal, which now comprises of two 17-storey towers and a hotel, instead of one 31-storey tower and a hotel. The plans also reduced the height of the proposed hotel from 17 floors to 12.

The project has courted controversy, with environmental NGOs and the local councils of surrounding localities opposing it. Some 17,000 objections have been filed with the Planning Authority.

In a Facebook post, Moviment Graffitti’s Andre Callus said these objections had been ignored.

These thousands of objections meant nothing to the PA and to planning minister Aaron Farrugia, he wrote. He also asked where the Opposition was, continuing that the interests of the people behind the project seemed to come before anything else.
