Minister for the Environment Aaron Farrugia revealed that 126,403 trees and shrubs have been planted by Ambjent Malta since 2008.

Ambjent Malta evolved from what was previously known as the Parks unit.

This includes 8,249 trees planted this year up until June, he said, while answering a Parliamentary Question.

The Labour government's tenure started with a slow start to tree and shrub planting, with just over 2,240 trees and shrubs planted in 2013.

The full numbers for each year are: 20,000 in 2008; 16,820 in 2009; 7,900 in 2010; 3000 in 2011; 3000 in 2012; 2240 in 2013; 3240 in 2014; 2543 in 2015; 2711 in 2016; 4421 in 2017; 10185 in 2018; 20,286 in 2019; 21,808 in 2020 and; 8,249 up until June 2021.
