A number of restaurants will be giving customers an additional €15 for each €15 government voucher used in their establishments, it was announced today.

By spending the red €15 voucher the Government is distributing at these select establishments, they obtain another €15 worth of food.

This scheme was introduced by restaurants wishing to benefit from the impact of the second round of vouchers issued by the government in recent days as part of the country’s economic regeneration program.

These details were announced at a news conference by the Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo, together with the Minister for the Economy and Industry Silvio Schembri in the presence of the Secretary of Association of Catering Establishments Matthew Pace.

Schembri welcomed this initiative, saying that “it complements the purpose of the government initiative” of the €100 vouchers which was introduced to assist businesses. “Your initiative shows how much businesses have understood our message as a government,” he said.

A few weeks ago, the government announced a second round of €100 vouchers aimed to help businesses recover after a period of difficult brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Around 118,000 people have downloaded these vouchers digitally, while next week the Government will announce the details as to how the logistics of the physical distribution of the vouchers is being conducted, the Minister said.
