A British national was certified dead after he fell in the sea in Qawra on Saturday afternoon, the police said.

The man, aged 62, lost his balance and fell in the sea in Triq it-Trunciera at around 1pm.

He was lifted ashore by members of the Civil Protection Department but was certified dead on site.

Magistrate Rachel Montebello is leading an inquiry.
