95% of carers and nurses in elderly care homes vaccinated

95% of carers and nurses in elderly care homes are vaccinated, Minister for Senior Citizens and Active Ageing Michael Farrugia said in response to a Parliamentary Question.

PN MP Maria Deguara asked the minister to say whether the carers working in government, Church or private elderly care homes are vaccinated, and whether care workers who work in the community who are in direct contact with patients are also vaccinated.

The minister said that the Social Care Standards Authority gave everyone working in an elderly care home the opportunity to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. With regards to carers and nurses who work in the active ageing community and provide community care were some of the first to be vaccinated. “Apart from this, workers are taking all the precautions by wearing protective gear.

As of Monday, 654,649 doses of the vaccine have been administered so far in the country, with 356,209 of those being first doses. 311,453 people are fully vaccinated.
