Monday, 28 June 2021, 09:26 Last update: about 4 years ago

More Covid-19 measures will be relaxed as from today, while no new cases of Covid-19 were reported on Sunday by health authorities.

Two people were reported to have recovered, and with no new deaths reported for another day, the number of active cases now stands at 28.

Monday will see the relaxation of a number of restrictive measures which were still in place.

From today, restaurants, bars, snack bars, and band clubs will be allowed to remain open until 2am as long as their license allows it.

Sea transport vessels will also be allowed to operate at 65% of their licensed capacity, while waterparks will also be allowed to operate as from today.

Contact sports for children under the age of 17 will be permitted from today as well, and fitness classes can also be organised from today as long as the protocols issued by health authorities are followed.

From today, visiting hours at Mater Dei Hospital will also increase, with visitors permitted between 11:30 and 13:00 and between 15:00 and 20:00.

Meanwhile, the case situation has remained stable.

2,227 swab tests were carried out on Saturday, taking the total number of swab tests so far up to 979,689, out of which no new cases of the virus were found.

Meanwhile, 653,005 doses of the vaccine have been administered up until Saturday. 356,128 of those were a first dose, while 309,871 people have now been fully vaccinated.

Health Minister Chris Fearne last week announced that 80% of those eligible for the vaccine had received at least one dose of the jab, and that 70% - the EU’s established herd immunity target - are now fully vaccinated.

Malta has had 30,606 cases of the virus so far. 30,158 of those have recovered, while 420 have died.
