179 new Covid-19 cases found as active cases continue to shoot upwards

179 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported by health authorities as the number of active cases has continued to shoot upwards.

Two people have recovered, and no deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours – meaning that the number of active cases currently stands at 634.

2,647 swab tests were carried out on Sunday, taking the total number of swab tests up to 1,018,448 so far.

Meanwhile, 706,857 doses of the vaccine had been administered up until Sunday.

372,052 of those are first doses, while 350,338 people are now fully vaccinated.

Malta has had 31,240 cases of the virus so far. 30,186 of those have recovered, while 420 have died.
