Investigations as to whether there were any breaches of Covid-19 regulations during a protest held last Saturday are “ongoing”, a police spokesperson told The Malta Independent.

Last Saturday, a protest was held in Valletta against vaccinations and other measures implemented to combat the spread of

Covid-19. Most of the protestors were arguing that their civil liberties were taken away through the enforcement of the Covid-19 vaccination passport.

“Police investigations are currently ongoing in order to identify any persons who did not comply with Covid-19 regulations,” a police spokesperson told The Malta Independent.

The spokesperson also noted that no incidents were reported during the protest.

Given Malta’s high vaccination rate, with over 81% of those eligible to take the vaccine being fully-vaccinated, calls to ease restrictions have been increasing.

Recently, in an interview with Times of Malta, Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne remarked that this may happen soon, but given the spike in cases Malta has seen in recent weeks, the country has to see that these are controlled first.
