Two more Covid-19 patients pass away as 56 new cases reported

Two more Covid-19 patients have passed away, bringing Malta’s death tally up to 428 so far, health authorities announced on Monday.

Authorities said that a 63-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman had passed away at Mater Dei Hospital while Covid-19 positive between Sunday and Monday.  Both patients were vaccinated, this newsroom is informed.

A total of 38 Covid-19 positive patients are currently receiving treatment at Mater Dei Hospital, with five people in ITU.

Meanwhile, 56 new cases of the virus were reported on Monday, with 121 recoveries bringing the number of active cases down to 878.

2,615 swab tests were done on Sunday, taking the total so far up to 1,119,811.

774,907 doses of the vaccine have been administered, with 404,461 of those being a first dose.  396,160 people are now fully vaccinated.

Malta has had 34,902 cases of the virus so far. 33,200 of those have recovered, while 428 have died.
