Two grievously injured in separate traffic accidents

Two men suffered grievous injuries in two separate traffic accidents, police said in statements on Wednesday afternoon.

The first accident happened at Triq San Gorg in Qormi at 7am, with preliminary investigations showing that a 31-year-old man from Qormi had been hit by a Renault Megane being driven by a 30-year-old Somali man who lives in the same locality.

The man was taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance where he was certified as suffering from grievous injuries.

In a second, separate accident at 8:30am in Triq il-Kbira in Lija, a 47-year-old man was left with grievous injuries after a hit and run.

The man, who lives in Qormi, was riding a Piaggio Sfera motorbike when he was hit by a vehicle which then allegedly escaped from the scene.

The man was also taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance, where he was certified as suffering from grievous injuries.

In both cases, police said that investigations are ongoing.
