Kitchen fire leaves two in hospital

A kitchen fire in a restaurant in Gozo left two people in hospital with significant injuries, police said on Sunday.

Police said that at around 11am on Sunday they were informed of an incident at a restaurant in Triq Giorgio Borg Olivier in Rabat, Gozo.

Preliminary investigations indicated that a 32-year-old Chinese man and a 33-year-old Nepalese man, who both live in Rabat, Gozo, had been burnt in an incident while they work working in the kitchen of the said restaurant.

Both were taken to Gozo General Hospital by ambulance.

The Chinese man was certified as suffering from grievous injuries while the Nepalese man was certified as suffering from serious injuries.

Members of the Civil Protection Department were on site to assist police.

Duty magistrate Bridgitte Sultana was notified of the case and is leading a magisterial inquiry.

Police investigations meanwhile are ongoing.
