No public officials have been charged with obstruction of justice, or corruption that led to the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, a joint statement by Repubblika, Occupy Justice and ManuelDelia.com read.

200 weeks ago, journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia was assassinated, the three said.

“On this anniversary we remember that, till today, nobody has been accused in court of corruption that led to the assassination. None of the police officials and persons who formed part of other authorities who obstructed justice have been charged. These people, instead of ensuring that justice was served, betrayed the people, became accomplices to criminals and served the mafia tentacles that took over the country.”

“We appeal to the authorities, particularly the Police Commissioner and the Attorney General, not to drag their feet and bring an end to the impunity that created the climate that led to the assassination, and which still exists today.”

They said that the Maltese State must take concrete steps on the public inquiry report. “We expect the Maltese State to formally recognise what was said in the public inquiry report, that Daphne Caruana Galizia was a heroine.

A vigil will be held this evening.
