PN sets up its own board to address social injustices

The Nationalist Party today said it has set up its own three-member board to receive reports on discrimination and seek redress for those who feel aggrieved.

The board was launched during a press conference with the participation of PN candidates Peter Agius (PN spokesman), Roselyn Borg knight (PN International Secretary and employment law specialist) and Ivan Castillo, president of the PN workers group.

Agius said that the PN has begun working on these matters from now so that if they are elected, they will be able to compensate quicker anyone who is deemed to have suffered an injustice.

He noted that they are welcoming discriminatory reports on injustices that took place under any administration, both PN and PL.

He added that this process is not intended to undermine the ombudsman but rather support his role by aiding the mitigation of a backlog of pending applications and to work together to enact needed changes so that the same act of discrimination does not reoccur.

For example, seeing as the PN has been informed about cases in Gozo wherein people are being paid less for the same work contract, the PN candidates said they are advocating the enforcement for equal pay for equal work and “give back any money they were ‘robbed’.”
