Three persons have been arrested after assaulting two police officers, the latter of which suffered from injuries due to the assault.

A police statement read that this case occurred on Saturday at around 3.30am, when the police received “diverse complaints” about music that was being played with “very high volume” in the area of Spinola Bay, St. Julian’s.

Two District Police officers immediately went to the scene, where a large group of people were noticed playing music in a public place.

The necessary steps were immediately taken, where they were asked to turn off the device. Because they failed to obey the orders, the police had to confiscate the said devices and it was at this moment that the police were attacked.

Following the request for assistance, more police from both the District and the Rapid Intervention Unit arrived on the scene and arrested the people who committed the assault; a 31-year-old man and a 24-year-old man resident of Swieqi and a 36-year-old woman. They are all residents of Swieqi from Venezuela.

In addition to damage to their uniforms, the two policemen suffered injuries where after being given medical help at a health centre, they were certified to have been slightly injured.

The three persons were arraigned on Sunday before Magistrate Charmaine Galea LL.D.
