WATCH: PN giving conflicting versions of its ODZ proposal, environment minister says

The Nationalist Party has given differing versions of its own proposal to protect ODZ land, Environment Minister Aaron Farrugia said on Thursday.

He was asked for a reaction to the pledge, announced by PN Leader Bernard Grech earlier this week, that land located outside the development zone would need a two-thirds Parliamentary majority vote to be touched.

Farrugia noted that he “sincerely” followed all the recent PN proposals for ODZ land but that “different indications” were given on the same topic.

Farrugia said that on one occasion, Grech proposed that every ODZ permit application should be taken to Parliament, which would mean that Parliament would take over the role of the Planning Authority, which is an “independent” institution.

Later, PN chief spokesperson Peter Agius said the current method of approving permits would be retained.

Then, a new PN candidate said that she “didn’t exactly understand what the proposal meant.”

“I believe that the Maltese people share the same sentiment, that they didn’t understand what that proposal means and what impact it will leave on Maltese and Gozitan families.”
