The Malta Union of Teachers this morning wrote to the Office of the Information and Data Protection Commissioner to file a data breach complaint for the actions carried out by the Ministry for Education.
In a statement, the MUT said that yesterday evening, it was informed that the Ministry for Education was calling the partners of teachers to relay information of a deployment (transfer to another school) of the teacher as from today.
The MUT stated that this is unprecedented, and the Union objected about this action, which constitutes a data breach since the ministry should not have any access to personal mobile contacts of educators' partners.
In cases that it might have, this cannot be used in such instances but only in life threatening emergencies.
The MUT therefore requested the Office of the Information and Data Protection Commissioner to intervene in this breach.
