Twenty-four hours after a migrant worker who fell two storeys on a construction site and was allegedly abandoned on a pavement a distance away, the Malta Developers Association condemned the incident which, it said, “threw bad light on the industry”.

In a statement, the MDA said it had “condemned the incident immediately” (but no statement was received from the MDA yesterday) and “irrespectively of whoever committed this deplorable act”, but today it can confirm that the contractor involved in the project where the accident took place, Glen Farrugia, is not and never was an MDA member.

When an exercise was carried to draw up a list of contractors who operated in Malta, he had not registered as a contractor, the MDA said.

The association said that it always insisted that the health and safety of employees on construction sites are of maximum importance given the dangerous nature of their job.
