New visuals for a prosed hotel in Delimara have been released.

The visuals are part of a planning Application that had been filed to change the design for the Delimara hotel that was, controversially, approved back in 2018 with a different layout.

The Project Description statement describes a proposal to redevelop the former Delimara Hotel into an ecological boutique hotel comprising 17 luxury suites and 1 presidential suite. The application filed is for a change in layout and distribution of uses of the already approved hotel.

The document reads that the plans will include the removal of the lower basement level and reduction in the overall height level. “Proposed amenities associated with the hotel will include a restaurant, beach bar, underground spa and outdoor pool.”

Back in 2018, the Planning authority had approved the redevelopment of the derelict hotel on site, despite the many objections that were filed.

The Project Description Statement reads: “while the proposal’s volumes and areas are less than the previously approved, its main volume follows a similar envelope as the 1950s Delimara Bay Hotel which can still be seen on site. One of the differences between the approved development and the Scheme lies in breaking down the mass of a four-storey structure into a series of detached, cabinlike guest rooms with open spaces featuring vegetation and undergrowth intended to integrate with the surrounding landscape. The guest rooms will be built in rammed earth and pre-cast elements, thus allowing for the reuse of construction material on site. The guest rooms extend laterally on the site”

The document reads that the Gross Floor Area of the project approved in 2018 stands at: internal space 2,428 sqm, external space 520 sqm, for a total of 2,948 sqm. The new proposal, the document reads, will see internal space of 2,153 sqm, external space of 450 sqm, for a total of 2,603 sqm. The project, however, seems to be more spread out horizontally.
