Two vehicles reported to be stolen from Canada were intercepted by the Criminal Investigations Squad Police and the Customs Department officials on Monday.

The police said that last week, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) called for the assistance of the Maltese police as it had information that the two vehicles were probably in a container which was on its way to Malta en route to Abu Dhabi.

With this information in hand, the Police together with Customs officials, went to the Malta freeport to inspect three suspicious containers using a scanner.

What appeared on the scanner did not match the documents of the container. This was opened and two stolen Lexus RX350s were found, the police said.

More vehicles were found in separate containers which did not match the required documents.

The police said that the vehicles found are a Range Rover Velar, Ford Mustang GT and Ford F150.

Police investigations are ongoing.
