New St Vincent de Paul complex inaugurated

The Ruzar Briffa complex has been inaugurated after an investment of €15 million.

Minister for the Elderly Michael Farrugia inaugurated the complex stating that the works are part of a bigger project which aims at strengthening the infrastructure and services provided to the elderly.

“We had the opportunity to not only move forward in the elderly sector but to introduce reformsin pensions, benefits and much more.”

The works on the Ruzar Briffa complex include structural works, extensions, restoration of facade and other civil work to uphold the historical value of the building.

Farrugia also said that professional health workers would now be able to conduct their research and provide the best service possible from St Vincent de Paul since “new technology to provide this has been installed to serve the people.”

During the recent years, the budget allocation for St Vincent de Paul went from €30 million to €100 million. “This project has amounted to almost €60 million in total and the amount of workers has increased from 1,000 in 2013 to 2,200.”

Farrugia said that the investment will not stop here as plans for better quality of health care are in the works. “Recently St Vincent de Paul inaugurated the first ever digital X-ray machine and in the coming weeks calls for offers of a CT Scan will be made.”

By the end of the year a day hospital as well as an outpatients department including a hydrotherapy and occupational therapy unit in St Vincent de Paul will also be inaugurated.
