1,085 people charged with domestic violence between January and August - minister

Over a thousand people were arraigned on domestic violence charges between January and August of this year, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri told Parliament on Wednesday.

Replying to a Parliamentary Question by PN MP Beppe Fenech Adami, Camilleri said a total of 1,085 people – 821 men and 264 women – were arraigned between 1 January and 31 August 2021.

Replying to another question, Camilleri said 84 people were arrested in connection with drug trafficking during the same period, and 91 people were charged in court.

Camilleri also provided information on homicides that took place between 2018 and this year. He said there were 18 homicides, all of which have been solved by the police.

Answering another PQ, the Home Affairs Minister said that, since 2018, 456 people have been charged with interfering with police duties, which include threats and aggression against police officers.
