The Minister for Social Policy, Michael Falzon, announced a public consultation for the Family Social Plan.

The Ministry for Social Policy said that the proposed plan involves research and consultation to understand the realistic context, future challenges and various realities families are facing in Malta. It added that this plan is aimed to present to the direction of an inclusive society which will allow families to succeed.

The Family Social Plan was based on three principles: social well-being, diversity and resilience. Falzon said, “It is through these principles that we will make the wayfor a better future that is more inclusive to all families on the Maltese islands.”

The minister said that the plan focuses on 4 main priorities: social justice for families, strong family relationships, empowering families with abilities and essential knowledge as well as addressing the low fertility rate.

“I am convinced that together we can continue refining the Family Social Plan so that it can truly make a difference that is felt longterm and adds value to the lives of family around Malta. This is why I appeal to the interested parties and all individuals to actively participate in this process of public consultation,” Falzon said.

The Permanent Secretary, Mark Musu, pointed out that this consultation is also open to the smallest members of society through the Empowering Children App, so that even children can share their thoughts and opinions. He added that this will allow a social and holistic plan that clearly represents the different needs and aspirations of Maltese communities to be prepared.
