Friday, 8 October 2021, 18:18 Last update: about 4 years ago

The Gozo Chamber of Advocates has been set up to represent the interests of lawyers based in Gozo.

In a statement, the Chamber said that this is an important step for lawyers who practice on the island, to ensure that their rights are safeguarded.

Currently lawyers in Gozo are on strike due to a number of problems with the court administration, with the court building having accessibility issues and lawyewrs saying the Gozo courts lack basic staff.

"This development took place in the face of the present situation in the Gozo Courts, where despite lawyers are undergoing collective action and are not attending fixed sessions, it seems that the court administration situation has remained the same. The Ministry of Justice has not yet taken any action, and there was no attempt by the ministry to make any form of communication," the Chamber said.

The collective action will continue, it said.
