Edward Zammit Lewis’ salary should be ‘symbolically’ reduced to €1, PN says

The Nationalist Party has filed a motion which would see Justice Minister Edward Zammit Lewis’ salary “symbolically” reduced to just €1.

In a statement, PN justice spokesperson Karol Aquilina said that three months had gone by since it was revealed that Zammit Lewis had been in close communication with alleged Daphne Caruana Galizia murder mastermind Yorgen Fenech, and that he was yet to resign or be sacked from his portfolio over these issues.

Aquilina reminded how Zammit Lewis is close with Fenech, and how he had described Labour voters as “ġaħan” and his ministerial colleagues as “children and poses” before seeking gratification and approval from Fenech for his behaviour in ridiculing the PN’s attempts for justice after the then-business tycoon was outed as the owner of 17 Black.

The PN insisted that the no confidence motion presented last August should be discussed “today before tomorrow” in Parliament.

“Our country does not deserve that the role of Minister for Justice and Good Governance is occupied by Edward Zammit Lewis who associated himself with individuals like Yorgen Fenech and actively participated in the creation and functioning of a culture of impunity of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia,” the statement reads.

It is for this reason that the Opposition had filed a motion so that, symbolically, Zammit Lewis’ salary is reduced to just €1.

Meanwhile, in the case of other ministers, the Opposition said it would be asking for their salaries to be docked by €1 per year while the budget is being discussed.
