All necessary resources will be made available should there be a request to reopen the Egrant inquiry, Finance Minister Clyde Caruana said on Monday.

Caruana was replying to a number of parliamentary questions by PN MPs Jason Azzopardi and Karol Aquilina.

While initially declining to say whether the inquiry has been reopened, Caruana later said that, “if and when a request is made,” his ministry will provide all the resources required.

The Sunday Times of Malta had reported that an expert report which is part of a Pilatus Bank inquiry recommended further steps be taken with US authorities to get to the bottom of transaction claims surrounding Egrant, and that Former Pilatus Bank employee Maria Efimova be interviewed. Maria Efimova had claimed that a $1.01 million transaction was wired to Egrant, she had also alleged that the company had belonged to Muscat's wife, however a magisterial inquiry had found no evidence of this.

Reacting to the report, the former Prime Minister reiterated that his family had nothing to do with Egrant and welcomed further investigations, insisting that nothing would be found.

"Someone made us go through hell based on forged signatures, and we were proved right. I assure everyone that I have nothing against any further steps to put at rest even the slightest doubt that some people seem to be intent in continuing to raise. Bring it on."

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Edward Zammit Lewis and Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri declined to give any details about the status of the inquiries, saying that these are confidential in nature.
