Part of a road at Chadwick Lakes collapsed on Sunday night, after heavy rainfall.
The Energy and Water Agency has urged the public not to use the road. It is also in talks with the Environment and Resources Authority to ensure that repair works in the area are carried out in an environmentally friendly manner.
In a statement, the EWA said that it is taking all necessary measures to avoid danger. It said the road was an old structure that was built on soil and clay. The damage was caused by a large volume of water that built up behind the nearby dam.
The agency said it immediately informed Infrastructure Malta to close off the road and to place alternative route signs. No one should use the road for now, not even pedestrians, it warned.
The EWA said it has started discussions with ERA to ensure that consolidation and repair works carried out in the coming weeks are environmentally friendly.
