Gozo Channel announced that it is extending its current ferry time table until Sunday 2 January 2022.

In doing so, the Gozo Channel will maintain the current level of accessibility to Gozo, the company said in a statement.

When compared to the schedule that should come into effect after that date, the current schedule allows for frequent trips to happen during the day and night. The company has also stated that Gozo’s economy will be benefitting from such an extension.

Trips between the two islands were not as regular on Wednesday afternoon after one of the vessels developed a fault.

The Malta Independent can confirm that, at around 3pm, the mv Malita was not available for trips as it had some technical issues, which meant that passengers had to wait a longer time to cross over as queues of cars piled up.

When contacted, the Gozo Channel was not forthcoming with information, requesting that questions be sent via e-mail.

No official statement was issued by the company on its Facebook page, which left daily commuters unaware of the situation.

This is a situation that people who cross the channel regularly are familiar with. On 26 October, Gozo Channel announced on its Facebook page that due to bad weather ferry operations “may be cancelled the following day”, but when the following day arrived no information was made available as to whether the ferry was operating. On such occasions, commuters can only get information from scrolling through the hundreds of comments under the post, or by phoning their offices.
