The Malta Police Union has claimed that its President and Vice-President have received yet another transfer in what it said was “an attempt at intimidation” by the Police Commissioner.

The union said it has registered a trade dispute over the matter.

It said this was the second time these officers have been transferred by this Commissioner.

“This is an attempt to intimidate officials of the Malta Police Union due to the constant work being done by same Union, including the record number of disputes the Union has been registering due to lack of meaningful consultation.”

The union said it is directing these members to remain at the posting prior to the transfer and will also not be attending any meetings and ceremonies organised by the Malta Police Force.

The MPU registered another trade dispute last week over grooming regulations for the police force. It said Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa had issued a circular threatening disciplinary action against non-uniformed members who sport a beard.

It told its members that they can grow a beard, dye their hair and wear any colour of nail polish.
