The public is yet to be informed if former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has been called in for investigation over his alleged involvement with the suspicious transfers of thousands of euros with a company associated with Vitals Global Healthcare, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech said on Friday.

In a video message, Grech said that these payments are “abundantly suspicious” according to last Sunday’s issue by the Times of Malta, where the newspaper revealed that Muscat was wired a total of €60,000 to his account by a Swiss firm connected to VGH. Grech said that this merits an investigation by the Police Commissioner.

Grech said that the Police Commissioner has a duty to inform the public that the police have commenced an investigation. Grech added that if the Police Commissioner has not investigated, it means that sufficient time has passed for Muscat to start building his defence.

“Political figures must stop evading justice,” said Grech.

Grech added that as an institution which warrants respect, the Police Commissioner should present the necessary information to the public on the current proceedings for Malta to regain the respect it always had.

This newsroom reported this week that the police are already investigating the payments as part of an ongoing magisterial inquiry into the VGH deal.
