Remembrance Day was commemorated in Malta on Sunday morning, with the country’s top officials leading the tributes in the traditional wreath-laying ceremony in Floriana.

President George Vella led proceedings at the ceremony, which took place at the foot of the War Monument in Floriana.

Archbishop Charles Scicluna, who led a commemorative mass earlier in the day at St. John’s Co-Cathedral, Prime Minister Robert Abela and Opposition leader Bernard Grech were also present at the ceremony.

Wreaths were laid in commemoration of members of the armed forces who died in the line of duty, while a guard of honour was formed by members of the Armed Forces of Malta.

Remembrance Day recalls those who lost their lives in the two world wars, and has been celebrated since the end of the First World War on the second Sunday of November – days after the anniversary of the signing of the armistice which ended World War One on 11 November 1918.
