Former Juventus, Palermo and Birkirkara player Miccoli sentenced to jail for aggravated extortion

Former Juventus, Palermo and Birkirkara player Fabrizio Miccoli has been sentenced to three years and six months in jail on charges of aggravated Mafia-style extortion, Italian news agency Ansa reports Wednesday.

The jail term has been confirmed by an Italian court, bringing to an end legal proceedings against the former striker, now aged 42.

Miccoli was charged with having commissioned the recovery of €12,000 from a discotheque owner.

Miccoli’s career included spells with Juventus, Fiorentina, Palermo and Maltese side Birkirkara, in 2015. He also played 10 games for Italy.
