A Briton who had spent time hiding in Malta and was eventually arrested and extradited has been convicted of torture and murder by a UK court.

Harrowing details about the case emerged in court, including how Christopher Guest More had tried to slice off his own fingers in a bid to hide his identity abroad.

The 43-year-old undercover TV researcher was found guilty of torturing and murdering Brian Waters in the UK in 2003. Waters was tortured in front of his own children. DNA linking Guest More to the crime was found at the scene.

Three other men have already been imprisoned over the murder. Guest more spent 16 years on the run, living in South Africa, Mozambique and Turkey, before settling in Malta. He was arrested in Malta in 2019 and was subsequently extradited to the UK.

The Daily Mail reports that Guest More had been living in Malta under the name ‘Drew Lamb’. He worked as a yacht captain.

When he was arrested and taken before the Maltese courts, he was desperate to convince judges that he was a different person.

A court expert had pointed out deep scars on Guest More’s fingers. He ultimately failed to convince judge Aaron Bugeja that he was someone else.

The murder case was linked to a £20,000 drugs debt.

Waters had been tortured for hours, sustaining injuries caused by whips, acid, a staple gun, being hung upside down, drowning and beatings.

He was killed on his farm in Tabley, near Knutsford.

The autopsy had revealad that Waters had suffered fractured ribs, a broken nose and breastbone, a bleed on the brain and bruising to the heart. He had also suffered from attempted strangulation and burns. The court heard how the victim had also been beaten savagely with bamboo canes and was struck with a metal bar and burned with melting plastic.

His son and daughter were tied up and made to watch.

Guest More had already been tried in May but the trial ended in a hung jury. A re-trial was then heard.

Sentencing is expected on Friday.
