An 82-year-old man became the latest person to die while positive for Covid-19 in Malta, health authorities said in their update on Sunday.

78 cases were reported by the same authorities on Sunday, with 94 new recoveries also being reported.

This means that Malta currently has 1,391 active cases of the virus.

Meanwhile, 16 patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital – five less than Saturday – and two of those are in intensive care.

990,949 doses of the vaccine have been administered by health authorities, with 152,430 of those being booster doses.

Malta has had 40,454 cases of the virus.  38,273 of those have recovered, while 471 have died.
