Serious shortcomings still exist despite there being new people tasked with the roles of Attorney General and Police Commissioner, President of NGO Repubblika Robert Aquilina said.

He accused the two entities of not bringing to court the ex-Chairman of Pilatus Bank Ali Sadr as well as another suspect seen with Sadr the night journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia published the Egrant story, Antoniella Gauci.

Aquilina questioned why Ali Sadr has not been arrested yet, even after Magistrate Ian Farrugia signed an international arrest warrant for Sadr. He added that the Attorney General and the Police Commissioner are failing to do their jobs.

"We are nearing the end of another year, and Attorney General Victoria Buttigieg and Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà have not yet been able to bring anyone to court in connection with corruption and other serious crimes that took place at the time Joseph Muscat was Prime Minister," Aquilina said.

Aquilina heavily condemned the excuse that on certain cases, a lot of time has passed, and evidence has been lost, adding that the NGO as well as journalists have been warning these institutions to start taking immediate action upon knowledge of these scandals.

"These very institutions were in bed with criminals and the corrupted," he noted.

Aquilina said that the institutions responsible for allowing justice not to be served should be prosecuted accordingly.

"These inactions, for example, are negatively affecting the members of the Police Force. Many police officers, of all ranks, talk to me and tell me that they feel humiliated by what is happening," said Aquilina. He added that the result of a survey about working conditions between the members of the force was not liked by the Commissioner, "and so he is hiding it."

"From here I want to give our full solidarity and support to the hundreds of honest members of the Police Force who want to do their job with loyalty to the oath they have taken and to the Maltese people," said Aquilina.

To the Attorney General and the Police Commissioner, Aquilina noted that due to their lack of prosecutions, businesses and workers are suffering after Malta was put on the FATF grey list.

"It is the duty of the Attorney General and the Police Commissioner to stop this cruelty as soon as possible. It is necessary, without further delay, for Buttigieg and Gafa to begin their duties and provide results," Aquilina added.
