Christmas week closes with record 4,107 Covid cases; seven-day average reaches 586

Christmas week has closed with a record 4,107 new Covid-19 cases recorded, doubling the previous record of 2,051 cases in one week, which was reached in March.

The 917 cases registered today are added to the 282 on Sunday, 252 on Monday, 386 on Tuesday, 582 on Wednesday, 733 on Thursday and 955 on Friday, for a total of 4,107.

The seven-day average is now also at its highest ever since the pandemic started, reaching 586. On Friday, it was 497.

Until this week, the worst week in terms of new cases was that between Sunday 7 March 2021 and Saturday 13 March 2021, when 2,051 cases had been registered.

The peak day that week was 10 March, with 510 cases.
