MaltaToday reported that nurses who treated the man in hospital had been unable to identify Diriye and referred to him as ‘Mr X’.

They identified him from the photo released by the police on Monday, in which they appealed for information from the public to help find the man.

The missing person’s report had been filed by relatives after Diriye abrubtly cut contact with his family on the day of the accident.

The police said on Monday evening that it had confirmed that Diriye was in fact the man who had been involved in the Marsa accident, and who had since passed away in hospital.
