1,298 new Covid-19 cases found, as daily numbers continue to soar

For the first time since the pandemic began, Malta reported over 1,000 new cases in a single day – with health authorities announcing 1,298 cases of the virus on Tuesday.

82 people meanwhile have recovered, meaning that the number of active cases has continued to soar - this time to 7,735.

Data published by health authorities shows that 8,004 swab tests were carried out on Monday, which means that the positivity rate was of 16.2%.

Meanwhile, 82 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, with five of those being intensive care.  The number of people in ITU has remained the same as on Monday, while the total number of people in hospital decreased by one.

Up till the end of Monday, 1,043,069 doses of the vaccine had been administered, with 198,772 of those being booster doses.

Health authorities administered over 9,500 booster doses throughout yesterday.

Malta has had 48,288 cases of the virus so far. 39,758 of those have recovered, while 476 have died.
