Tuesday, 28 December 2021, 10:50 Last update: about 3 years ago

The PN has come up with new proposals for the tourism and catering industry as Malta suffers a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases.

Noting that such numbers are putting pressure on the sectors, with hundreds of flights cancelled for the first three months of next year, the PN said that Government should seek to help such sectors with immediate effect.

The party is proposing that fees related to the licenses issued by the Malta Tourism Authority should be removed by next March.

VAT for restaurants and bars should be reduced to 7%, as in the case of hotels.

The Government should intervene as promised on the increase in the price of heating fuel oil, which has increased by 8% since November.

The Wage Supplement should be extended until March 2022.

The Malta Tourism Authority and the Minister should stop spending money allocated to the sector on their electoral district and instead concentrate more on a marketing plan for our country and invest in derelict tourism sectors.

The Nationalist Party said it believes that if the Government wants to save this sector in such a difficult time, it must heed these proposals and implement them as soon as possible.
