PN appeals for an extension of wage supplement scheme until the end of March

The Nationalist Party has reiterated its call for the Covid-19 wage supplement to be extended to March, rather than January.

Following a press conference by Enterprise Minister Miriam Dalli, the PN highlighted that in view of the Covid-19 measures and the exponential rise in cases, the extension of the wage supplement until January will create uncertainty among businesses as they will not be able to plan in the long term.

Businesses have once again fallen victim to the current pandemic situation as Covid-19 cases are on a daily rise, leading many business owners, self-employed, employees and their families to face uncertainties. It is important that the government intervenes to save businesses and their employees, the PN said.

“We are seeing a number of businesses come to a standstill as consumers are being more cautious during this period. While businesses have been eagerly waiting for consumers, Malta’s total trade was much less than expected,” the PN said.

The Nationalist Party stressed that “we need to find a balance between curbing the virus and the freedom for people to live their lives.”
