A girl was killed, a mother is being murdered – PL MP

Tuesday, 4 January 2022, 07:07 Last update: about 3 years ago

Labour MP Jean-Claude Micallef has spoken against the “daggers” hitting the mother of the man who is under police investigation following the murder of a Polish woman in Sliema last Sunday.

Writing on Facebook, Micallef said that everybody was shocked by the news of the first murder of the year. Every murder is macabre, whether it is a femicide or not. “But the murder of a woman because she is a woman hurts me more in a society that is backwards in putting all its children in the same basket from a sexual point of view”.

He then goes on to speak about the many people who used social media “to kill the young man who is accused of the crime. With every word, insult and condemnation they have killed his mother and his family,” the MP wrote.

This crime exposed how society is dead before sexual education, mental health and digital literacy.

We have many tools at our disposal but we are not producing a basis on which individuals can grow.

“The last breaths of Maria Paulina Dembska are not just the murder of an innocent girl. The last tantrums of Abner Aquilina are not just frenetic behaviour. Together they are the alarm being sounded for Malta to renew its laws but also its mentality on how to treat the new generations,” he said.

Micallef added that the comments he read about the murder were “daggers” thrown in the direction of another woman who was “stoned by her own society” because of her son’s behaviour, for which she has no blame.
