Daily Covid-19 cases tally back over 1,000 as 65-year-old passes away

1,147 new cases of Covid-19 were reported by health authorities on Tuesday, while Malta registered its 480th death in relation to the virus as well.

The number of cases reported is the fifth highest on record for Malta during the pandemic.

Authorities said that a 65-year-old man had died while Covid-19 positive.

285 people meanwhile have recovered, taking the number of active cases up to 14,121 so far.  It is the 13th consecutive day that the number of active cases has risen to a new record.

124 patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital – an increase of two since Monday, while five of those – a decrease of two – are in intensive care.

Malta has administered 1,086,374 doses of the vaccine so far, with 236,942 of those being booster shots.

Malta has had 56,147 cases of the virus so far. 41,197 of those have recovered, while 480 have died.
