A fundraising campaign that was set up through the fundraising page GoGetFunding for the family of murder victim Paulina Dembska has reached its goal amount.

The campaign was set up by Agnieszka Anna Gramala, a friend of Dembska’s, to serve as financial help to the victim’s family to transport the body, cover any lawsuits and legal costs to ensure fairness to the case.

At the time of writing, €22,304 was collected, when the original target was €20,000.

In a Facebook post, Gramala said that it had never occurred to her that she would have to say goodbye to a brutally murdered friend. The campaign was set up to allow Dembska’s family into a long stage of mourning, and any financial aid is appreciated, she said.

“We, the living who knew her and those who heard about her for the first time last Sunday, were left with a great deal of sorrow and internal disagreement with the brutality of this act,” Gramala said on the campaign page.

Dembska was found dead in Sliema’s Independence Garden early on Sunday morning. She had wounds to her chest and head. The autopsy confirmed that the victim was raped and strangled.

20-year-old Abner Aquilina from Zejtun was arrested as the main suspect of the case. However, the police had to stop their interrogation on the suspect and refer him to Mount Carmel Hospital for evaluation, following his claims that the devil had entered his thoughts at the time of the attack.
