PN MP Hermann Schiavone has announced that he will be retiring from politics after the end of this legislature.

In a social media post, Schiavone said he had discussed his decision with party leader Bernard Grech.

He said he has come to the conclusion that he can best serve the country by making way for new blood in the party and in Parliament.

This does not mean that every MP should do the same, he said, adding that experience is as important as new blood.

Schiavone said his 40-year career started when he was only 16. The journey gave him the privilege of being elected to Parliament on the fifth district in 2017. The years he spent in politics gave him great satisfaction, he said.

He also announced that Bernard Grech will take his place as a candidate on the fifth district.

In a statement, the PN thanked Schiavone for his service.

Schiavone, the PN said, has always shown altruism and dedication towards his constituents and the party. He always understood that politics is a mission to serve the people. It said it had no doubt that Schiavone will continue contributing to the party and to the country, as he has always done.
