Two more Covid patients die as active cases now over 15,000

Two more Covid-19 patients have died as a result of the virus, health authorities announced on Thursday, while 1,144 cases were reported.

Authorities said that a 56-year-old woman and a 67-year-old woman had died while Covid-19 positive, taking Malta’s death count up to 484.

709 people meanwhile have recovered from the virus, meaning that Malta has 15,065 active cases – the 15th consecutive day that the record for active cases has been broken.

114 patients meanwhile are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, with five of those in intensive care.

The number of people in hospital is down by seven compared to Wednesday.

1,106,647 doses of the vaccine have been administered thus far, with 254,889 of those being booster doses.

Malta has had 58,213 cases of the virus so far. 42,315 of those have recovered, while 484 have died.
