Covid-19: Number of patients in hospital up, two more deaths

The number of people requiring hospital treatment is up by four on Saturday, compared to Friday, while two more patients have died, health authorities said.

On the brighter side, the number of mpeople who recovered from the virus, for the second day running, is higher than the number of new cases, meaning that the number of active cases is down.

The health authorities said that the two latest victims are a woman aged 71 and a man aged 89. They take the tally of Covid-19 victims to 487.

The number of new cases reported Saturday is 761, slightly below the 786 registered on Friday, with 1,107 recoveries.

This leaves the number of active cases at 14,615, which is the fourth highest tally of active cases.

The number of people in hospital has risen from 123 to 127, with six in intensive care. This is the highest number of patients in hospital in this latest surge of the virus.

The health authorities said that 1,123,023 vaccination doses have been administered, of which 269,052 are booster doses.
