Five Covid-19 patients die as 342 new cases are reported

Five people have died while positive for Covid-19, health authorities said as they reported 342 new cases of the virus on Wednesday.

Authorities said that four women – aged 70,77, 82, and 92 – and a 77-year-old man had died while positive for Covid-19, therefore taking Malta’s death toll up to 514.

The last time five deaths were registered in a single day was 19 March 2021.

Meanwhile, 548 recoveries from the virus were reported, meaning that the number of active cases has now dipped to 8,970.

102 patients are currently receiving treatment at Mater Dei Hospital, with eight of those being in intensive care.

1,179,961 doses of the vaccine have been administered so far, with 313,060 of those being booster doses.

Malta has had 64,657 cases of the virus. 54,790 of those have recovered, while 514 have died.
