The appointment of Rosianne Cutajar to head a parliamentary committee makes the House complicit in the culture of impunity, NGO Repubblika said.

Rosianne Cutajar was appointed as the president of the parliamentary health committee.

This comes after around two months the Standards Committee voted to admonish Cutajar after adopting a report that found her in breach of ethics. The motion for her appointment was not objected to by the Opposition.

In a statement, the NGO said that the message that was being sent was that, for some people, there were no consequences whatever they do.

The NGO said it was not surprised that the nomination was made by Health Minister Chris Fearne, who is under the spotlight for appointing his canvasser in a role for which she is paid €13,500 a month.

The NGO said it was surprised that the opposition did not object to the appointment.

This appointment is an insult to the Maltese population, the NGO said.
