Three elderly Covid-19 patients die as 229 cases are reported

Three elderly people have died while positive for Covid-19, as health authorities reported 229 new cases of the virus on Friday.

Authorities said in their daily update that a man aged 70 and two women aged 84 and 91 respectively had died while positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, 572 people have recovered from the virus, taking the number of active cases down to 3,597.

105 patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, with five of those receiving treatment in intensive care.

1,206,841 doses of the vaccine have been administered thus far, with 328,074 of those being booster doses.

Malta has had 67,105 cases of the virus.  62,578 of those have recovered, while 544 have died.
