Three elderly people die while Covid-19 positive as 169 new cases are found

Three more elderly people have died while positive for Covid-19, as the death toll as a result of the pandemic continues to rise.

Health authorities said in their daily update that two men, 86 years old and 93 years old respectively, and an 88-year-old woman had died while positive for the virus.

169 new cases were meanwhile reported, while 327 people have now recovered from the virus.

This means that the number of active cases has dropped below the 3,000 mark to 2,972.

100 patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, with four of those being in intensive care.

1,210,946 doses of the vaccine have been administered thus far, with 329,806 of those being booster doses.

Malta has had 67,655 cases of the virus so far. 63,747 of those have recovered, while 550 have died.
