‘Sorry to bother you again’ – Cassola seeks another investigation from Standards czar

Friday, 4 February 2022, 08:17 Last update: about 3 years ago

Independent candidate Arnold Cassola is asking for another investigation from the Standards Commissioner, this time about the office leased to former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat as part of his severance package.

“Sorry to bother you again”, is how Cassola starts his letter to George Hyzler, knowing full well how he (Cassola) has sought the commissioner’s intervention on a number of occasions, including this week when he asked Hyzler to investigate a report in which it said that a minister’s girlfriend is employed in another ministry but is not reporting for work.

In his request today, he referred to the confirmation by Prime Minister Robert Abela that Muscat had been given an office to operate from at Sa Maison.

The office is still occupied today, Cassola pointed out, adding that Abela is refusing to publish information about the severance package offered to Muscat.

Cassola asked Hyzler to investigate whether it is ethical that Abela authorised such a concession to Muscat and is now refusing to divulge details on the whole severance package.

“I thank you for your patience and good work you carry out,” Cassola concluded.
